We sometimes hear people say that beauty is only skin deep. That may be true in some instances, but there are also many who tend to breach that protocol.
One individual who is making waves in the modeling industry is Rosa Saito. She is doing very well on the runway and has gained quite a following online but the amazing thing is, she 71 years old.
Rosa is someone who loves to go after stereotypes and to tear them apart piece by piece. Despite her gray hair and some obvious wrinkles, she is doing well in the fashion industry and is showing all of us how to age gracefully.
Although she goes by the name of Rosa, her actual name is Setsuko Saito. Since she wanted to do well on Instagram, she chose an alias that would be easier to pronounce.
At 5’5″ tall, she may have been short in stature but she was ready to take on the modeling industry head-on. It wasn’t only her looks and her ambition that made her successful, it’s the fact that she was adventurous and wasn’t afraid to try her best.
Born in Araçatuba, São Paulo, she discovered that she had creative talent when she was young and began writing, singing, and drawing. She also knew that she was destined for something better in life.
“I always knew I was going to pursue something creative, something I could invent. Everything I do I take to that side.”
She did have a lot of challenges when she was younger. She was a caregiver for her bedridden mother at the age of 22 and had three children of her own. Her husband died in 2000 but she found soulless and caring for plants.
“It is important to seek and find yourself. And my moment of peace is with them (plants). I go to my garden and talk to them.”
She didn’t give much thought to being a model but when professionals approached her, she decided to give it a try.
“Twice it was by professionals from the Mega modeling agency and once by a photographer. I let the idea mature for a year, after all, it had costs too, it wasn’t something I was going to get into just like that, blindly. Until I decided to take the risk.”
She loves being natural and she lived her life in a natural way.
“It was all based on tea, and in my essence, I am like that, kind of against everything that is chemistry. So I always took care of myself with aloe, coconut oil, olive oil.
“I feel that slowly we are changing. People are living longer, taking care of themselves more and companies really need to open up more in that sense and visualize these potential customers.”
